Saxonby is a winner at prestigious awards ceremony
Shrewsbury based Saxonby was presented with the best Business in the Community accolade at the 13th annual Shropshire Business Awards. Held at Telford International Centre on 14 June and organised by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce and The Shropshire Star newspaper, the event attracted over 700 people from the county’s businesses.
Shortlisted to four finalists from 26 initial applicants Saxonby’s entry covered its relationships, financial support and sponsorship of organisations and causes; for example, the Shrewsbury & District Evening Cricket League and the lead it took on redeveloping the Shropshire & West Midland Agricultural Society’s County Showground; its environmental approach; the importance of employing and developing a local workforce; 90 percent of Saxonby’s workforce and suppliers originate from or are based in Shropshire and in 2012 it supported the establishment of a new business promoting the Shropshire real ales. Three of its directors sit on the boards of housing trusts and housing related charitable organisations.
This is the first time Saxonby has entered the awards and as director Andrew Copson explains it has rubber-stamped the work the company carries out in the local community. He said: “We are very proud of the support Saxonby provides and will continue to offer worthy causes and organisations in Shropshire. For us business in the community isn’t just about financial support, throwing money at something if you like, but galvanising suppliers and partners as well as applying our business skills and knowledge to a project.”
