West Mid Showground makeover secures support worth £75k
Organisers of a two-day Ground Force style makeover planned at Shropshire’s West Mid Showground are celebrating as donations and pledges of work and equipment have now reached £75k.
Led by Shrewsbury based home builder Saxonby in conjunction with the Shropshire & West Midland Agricultural Society (SWMAS) and The Wrekin Housing Trust, the event will take place on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 April.
James Wood, director at Saxonby, said: “The response has been absolutely fantastic, but not surprising as Shropshire people are always generous when it comes to supporting a worthy cause. We can’t thank the businesses enough and now look forward to carrying out the much-needed work with confidence. The Wrekin Housing Trust will be replacing the showground’s arena fencing and renovating the grandstand and one of the toilet areas; and Travis Perkins has donated £10k of materials and equipment. This sort of commitment will enable us to deliver an impressive and successful makeover, with obvious long-term benefits to the facility and the local community. In addition, a number of Shrewsbury residents, who will each be given a free pair of cinema tickets donated by Cineworld Shrewsbury, councillors and our local MP have offered their time over the two days, which is equally as encouraging.”
The current list of businesses and organisations supporting the makeover include: Asset Surfacing, Edmundson Electrical, Hales Sawmills, Leaton Knolls Estate, Roofrite, Shrewsbury College, Signs Express Telford, Tarmac, The Wrekin Housing Trust and Travis Perkins.
